More Tedious Than I Expected...

I decided it was time to paint the front porch ceiling.  It's been a while.  Apparently before I replaced the entire roof of the house, there must have been a few small leaks above this ceiling.  The water worked its way down and caused some of the paint to peel.  That's not what you are looking at here - this is a half day's tedious scraping of the old paint.  After scraping, I spray the ceiling with a mildew removal solution, then wash the whole ceiling with a garden hose.  After it dries, then it's ready for primer, and then a final coat.  Stay tuned...

  1. Have seen these porch roofs stained and varnished and they're so beautiful because the grain of the wood shows through and adds so much character. I wish I had a porch.

  2. I have seen those varnished wainscoting ceilings, and they are beautiful! This ceiling has been painted from the very beginning, and with some of the leaks in the roof years ago, some of the boards are warped. I would have to replace the whole ceiling if I wanted the varnished version. That's a lot more work than I am willing to do. And, yes porches are wonderful places for sitting outdoors and having coffee after dinner. I hope you get a porch eventually.

  3. WOW! You have set yourself up for a LOT of work! I didn't mind painting my walls but cannot imagine painting a ceiling with my neck/head up the whole time. I know you'll pace yourself and not overdue it...Then you can go back to relaxing on your porch. bsk
