I'm on a Diet

I'm on a diet, and this is dinner.  :-)    Actually that's not true.  Kathy made pasta for dinner and we had a salad first.  While she was finishing her salad, I went to the kitchen and served myself this portion, and brought it into the dining room.  She really laughed when she saw this!  And that was the object of the exercise, of course.  I love being silly.  Oh, and for those of you, and I know you are out there, who pay attention to the niceties of table setting, yeah, I know the fork is on the wrong side!  Didn't realize that until after we finished dinner.

  1. Your portion of pasta made me chuckle, but I'd like to comment off the blurb. Fork on right side or left side, knife on left side or right side, I say phooey! These are "etiquette" rules that were established so long ago and have no place at this point in our lives. Maybe it still matters in an upscale restaurant, but these days, if I go to a neighborhood place, I'd be more than happy happy with spotless. Let's get some things right and not worry about the stuff that has no impact on our lives. If you're having people over for dinner and you want uniformity, just make sure all the forks are on the same side, or top, or bottom for each place setting. Let's be relaxed when we sit down to eat, at least. (Sorry to soapbox this, but I know people who are serious about place settings - not the owner of this blog - and they ignore so many other things that needs their attention.)

  2. actually I'm immensely distracted by how beautiful that plate is. your wife has great taste. all those colors are so soft and awesome and remind me of the soft colors in the post about windows into counseling. would it be weird to ask what kind of plate that is? laurel

  3. Thank you both for the interesting comments on place settings and china patterns! I am pretty relaxed about table settings, but I have to tell you a funny story. I have done a lot of food photography for publication over the years. A couple of years ago I did a photo for the blog that was about some dish, and I did a whole place setting. Well, a good friend of mine, and his daughter both caught that I had placed the knife in the right place, BUT I had the sharp edge of the blade facing the wrong way! We had quite a laugh over that, and it left me wondering if any of my published photos had the same mistake! :-)
I am looking on the bottom of that soup dish and here is what is written: "EXCEL Fine China, WELLESLEY, Copyright ©'96 486 Katherine Babanoousky, CHINA" Wow, we have had these dishes for a long time... :-) Hope this helps.

  4. You are silly! And that is probably one of the reasons why your marriage has lasted all the years!!! The other is because Kathy is a patient and loving woman...bsk
