...at rush hour! Our Astronomy club was having a Moon Watch at a library out in Centereach, about an hour from Sea Cliff. I haven't been in rush hour in a long time, but I figured I could make the trip in about an hour and a half. How wrong I was! There were FOUR accidents along the way, and the trip took nearly two hours. I had allowed a half hour for a quick bite to eat at McDonalds and I ended up gobbling a burger and fries in record time at the tail end of the journey. It was a really nice event with lots of children and adults who were amazed to see the Moon through a telescope for the first time! Please click on the photo to see all the cars in more detail.
The LIE - the worlds longest parking lot ! Unfortunately this is not going to get any better anytime soon as LI continues to expand with little thought to infrastructure. For example, Glen Cove is building a 1000+unit apartment complex on the water which in theory could mean another 1000 cars - crazy ! As we all know you need a car to get anywhere on LI so I don't think it improves until we have driver-less cars which should mean no accidents and better flow. I have a friend in the insurance industry whose firm is already planning no revenue for car insurance in the future as there should be no need for it (don't plan on the extra money just yet !!).
ReplyDeleteThe good news is that the traffic on LI still not as bad as Los Angeles - yes ???
Yes to all of that! The nice thing is, that in Los Angeles, we can fly to LAX now, when previously we had to fly into Long Beach or Burbank, because we love Jet Blue. So less driving in traffic, and when we visit, we make sure not to be driving during the morning or evening rush hours.
