I was in the bagel store again this morning, and the news came on the large flat screen TV up on the wall behind the counter. One of the first items was that today was the one year anniversary of the first confirmed Covid case in New York! Wow. It has been a whole year. And who could possibly have guessed when the first case was announced here in New York, that it would be the beginning of a death toll that would climb to 500,000 people across the United States, so far. A sad anniversary indeed.
Truly a sad day. The numbers are horrific. I give thanks every day that my family and friends are healthy and well. I believe it is because they decided to follow the science: stay home, wear masks, distance themselves from other people and wash their hands. I remember the day that we were told we would be home from work for 2 weeks. Then probably be back to work. Well that didn't happen! So much has changed. But I am hopeful that most people will get vaccinated, the death toll will recede and things will start to get back to normal. betsey
ReplyDeletePlease remember that the numbers were highly inflated. ANY death was reported as "from covid". Hospitals and doctors were ordered to report the deaths as covid even If it was a car accident and the person just happened to test positive for the virus. I won't go into my actual feelings about this because I think the blogging platform should be a political-free zone (I know others don't have that same idea). So I'll just leave it at that.
ReplyDeleteLinda: I don't believe for one second that the numbers were inflated. In fact, investigations in New York show that nursing home deaths from Covid were suppressed after Covid victims were moved to hospitals, and thus other causes of death were assigned. But that has been uncovered and rectified, thus raising the number of Covid deaths. Don't forget that we had a president who insisted Covid was going away. But it didn't - it got worse. I can't believe he would stand for increasing the numbers of deaths. But as you suggest, politics has no business here on our blogs But I feel that I had to respond to your comment.
