On March 31st I stopped and photographed this house which I have been riding by for 20 years. I know the signs now when a temporary chain link fence goes up.
I rode by the site three days ago, and there was a giant trailer truck pulling out of the property with much of the wreckage in the truck. Man, that was fast! I can't believe how quickly the house was demolished. They have a big excavator in the background, and that made short work of the house. To suddenly see this house gone, I stop to wonder who all the people who lived here were. I guess that there were families and children who lived their lives here. I am guessing this house was built in the 1950's so that could be three families at least who lives were lived here. So it seems a shame that all evidence of their lives are now gone.

This is a sad story but maybe we don’t know all the facts. Perhaps the house was in bad shape - plumbing, electrical, etc so that it wasn’t worth putting a lot of money into it to make it livable. Betsey
Sad as I don't think of a 1950's home as being that old. Betsey has a good point. I only think of a big McMansion ahead. We lived a simple life in a much older home. Joan
I like the idea that I can drive by the home we all grew up in - it is still standing on Seaside Avenue, in Milford. I have come to the realization that when we are gone, because we have a huge side yard, I think our home will be torn down to the ground and a mini-mc mansion will be built here because of all the room for a larger building footprint. Up until now, I have always thought that because this is a smaller home in Sea Cliff, a new young couple would buy this because they could afford it and this would be their "starter" home for a new life. Now I know someone will out-bid them because money will be no object and our home will be demolished. Sad to contemplate this, I know. Welcome to the world of rich people...
Ken, it is sad that you are thinking ahead like that but you are probably right. There was a small beach cottage on a double lot on the street behind Jenny. Now there are two homes that sold for over a million dollars. Joan
