Full Moon

We were driving back from Connecticut last night and suddenly Liz said "Look at the moon!"  We looked to the east and there, just above the horizon was a beautiful orange full moon rising over Long Island Sound.  It was orange because of the smoke in the sky from wildfires out west.  5 hours later, it finally rose above the trees in our back yard, and so I used one of my telescopes to capture the bright white moon, much higher in the sky.  What a beautiful sight and what a joy to view close-up through a telescope!  I have posted an extra large image, so please click on this to see much more detail.

This is a great close up shot of the moon! It has been especially beautiful the last few nights appearing full and so bright. I didn't realize the orange appearance was from the smoke from fires. Trace

Wonderful close up photo. I never thought about the orange appearance being from the wild fires smoke.

A full moon is a beautiful sight to see, especially when it is bright, low in the sky and sometimes presented in color. If I have learned only one thing in life: "nothing is forever" so we will all have to adjust to change including the sight of nuclear reactors and other man-made equipment that will begin to blight the moon's landscape. The Sea of Tranquility no more - all in the name of exploration and progress.

I always put the dates of the full moon on my calendar so I won’t miss it. I enjoy looking at it. And sometimes I even howl at it :-) Betsey
