"Atomic Accidents"

OK, so this is a crazy story!  Kathy and I took an AAA Driver Improvement Course today.  We were listening to the instructor as she taught the course, and I noticed this guy who was not paying attention to the course.  I took this photo thinking that it would be another "not paying attention" photo.  On our first break, I went over to the guy - I have no idea why - and asked what book he was reading.  He was reading "Command and Control" a book about nuclear weapons and all the accidents that have happened since nuclear weapons were invented!  I could not believe it!  I have been reading a book called "Atomic Accidents," about all the accidents from atomic research, and building atomic weapons and nuclear power plants since the 1940's.  I was stunned that two people in a room of 40 people were reading such exotic books!

  1. And then...?
Did you guys have a great conversation? Did he think you were nuts for asking him what he was reading? Did you go for coffee later? Did he get disqualified for not paying attention? Shouldn't leave viewers hangin'. A "story" has a beginning, middle and END!

  2. We talked, just about the books. He seemed astounded at first when I asked what he was reading. He seemed quiet, so we didn't talk much. I didn't rat him out, so I guess he passed... :-)

  3. So is it safe to assume that both of you missed the part about the dangers of photographing things while you are driving? I'm pretty sure that has killed more people than atomic accidents.

  4. Believe it or not, "photographing while driving" was not on the list of distractions that were listed as unsafe! I am guessing that no one else had ever considered that someone would do that! Whew, I'm in the clear!
