In my walking around Sea Cliff I came across these roses growing through a fence. The sky was overcast and misting rain and there are water drops all over the rose blossom and the leaves. I think that it adds to the interest. You will probably have to enlarge the image in order to see those details.

Fern Patterns
We have a fern bank in front of our house, but this one is several houses up the street. It was raining lightly as I walked by, and the soft light was perfect. I was struck by the pattern the ferns made as they they criss-crossed each other and thought that this was a photograph. I also moved closer and photographed just some of the ferns as a detail, but I felt that the picture needed more variety, so you have this version. Please click on the picture to see the pattern more clearly.

Bok Choy
We were in the grocery store where we always shop. They have changed the way they display fresh vegetables, as you can see with these Bok Choy - they are displayed standing up on a shelf. I was caught by the shapes of the white stalks. For some reason I had never seen noticed these shapes before. Funny how that works - you go by something for a year or so and then one day you really SEE it! That's what makes photography so interesting.

The Moonwatch
Our astronomy club had a Moon Watch tonight at an elementary school some distance away. We had a great turnout of both children and adults - perhaps one hundred people, which is great! It is such a rewarding experience to show both children and adults views of the moon, and the planet Jupiter, as we did tonight. To hear their expressions of delight in seeing the rugged craters on the moon, and to see the subtle bands of Jupiter and four of her moons was such a treat for me. Here are some of the students waiting in line as one of them looks into the eyepiece of my telescope to first view the moon.

The Red Couch
I was riding down this road at the start of my ride today, really hammering it. (That means I was using a lot of effort and going fast...) Suddenly I saw this flash of red go by, and I screeched to a halt. This looked like something different for the blog, so I had to shoot it! What I immediately remembered was that another photographer bought a red couch, and took it all over the country and I think that he had people sit in it to be photographed. Maybe there were no people - I can't remember. You can buy the book on amazon for $4.00. He had a larger couch, though.

Silver Clouds
I would really like to see the sun for a while. Maybe by Thursday. But I must confess to seeing some beautiful clouds with the overcast and rainy conditions. These are such subtle silvery clouds that it is just fun to watch them. I was walking along the shoreline and suddenly noticed people walking on the sandbar, because the tide was out. I hope that the people add a bit more interest. Please click on the image to see it in more detail.

Memorial Day Parade, 2017
The weather forecast for this morning was for rain and possible thunderstorms. I was relieved to wake up and find that there was only a slight bit of drizzle. So I grabbed my camera and walked up hill and over to the center of town. Sea Cliff avenue was empty, but the parade always starts at the far end of the street, so there was still hope. But by the time I got half way to Memorial Park, I realized that there was no parade this year. This is the second year in a row that the parade has been cancelled because of rain. I continued on to the park, and met a couple of people that I know and had some nice conversations. Then I decided to photograph the memorial in Memorial Park, decorated for Memorial Day. Notice I used the word "memorial" three times in that last sentence. Oh boy, my editor pal is going to be all over me for this one!
