Washout Repair Progress

Back on October 8, 2021 I did a post showing the washout of the hill behind this house, that almost took the house with it.  Look at this link, and see how much has been changed, from what was back then,  in order to repair this hill:  First Washout Photo.  What a shock to see what an enormous amount of work has taken place in order to save this house.

Here is another slightly different view of the scene.  What an enormous project!

It is a bit challenging digging up solid information on this project located at 14 Bay Avenue from my vantage point. The house was apparently built in 1908 but has been vacant for the past several years. A few years ago, a developer paid $600,000 for the property. There has been a tug of war between the town, current owner and adjacent property owners regarding the expense of stabilizing the washed out cliff. I saw a number of $1,700,000 - but that might have included the new retaining wall, other site work and restoration of the house. Perhaps you can attend the next Sea Cliff Village town meeting to get more accurate and up-to-date information. If this old house can be salvaged, it could be a dream house with a spectacular water view!

Primo! Man, for someone a long distance away, you sure were able to dig up a lot of information on this project! I am seriously impressed. My understanding is that an older couple owns and lives in this house, but they have another house in the village. I think they were living in the house, because there are beautiful gardens surrounding one part of the house up on the top of the cliff. I don't believe that the house was damaged from the look of it, but it came close to having the northern part, which you can see, be undermined. WAIT! I just looked this up, and you have a different property. This house is at 24 Cliff Way.
