Scanning History 4

This was a fun assignment that led to this cool photograph.  It was a whaleboat race out of Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy.  The boat in the foreground is from Kings Point.  I am not sure if the boat in the background is from there too, or if this is a race with the New York Maritime College which is nearby.  What is cool about this race is the weather conditions.  It was howling out there, as you can see from the spray flying  around the boats.  What is really cool is having the Throgs Neck Bridge in the background, and then the Whitestone Bridge is in the distance.  It was so cool to find this negative!

This is an awesome photo!! There are so many interesting things to look at in this picture. I love the choppy waves and the sun on the water, the two boats racing near each other and the city behind. It is an amazing shot of the bridges and even some of the details of the Throgs Neck can be seen. The black and white color intensifies the photo. Very enjoyable picture. Trace

Ditto to comment from Trace. Great photo, but with the blustery weather, I was surprised that the young men were not wearing life vests.

Wonderful photo! Love the sea spray above the waves, the bridges in the background and the helmsman standing in the boat. (I bet that the crew wasn't happy about being on the water that day.) This is perfect in black and white! betsey

An absolutely cool black & white photo. I can almost feel the spray in my face as the shot captures wind, water, and the two racing whale boats in action! The boats appear to be identical and numbered 6 & 12; I think is a safe bet both belonged to the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. I never noticed the crew was not wearing life vests. That seems really strange, especially for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy!
