Coming Down The Mountain

Coming down the mountain.  Kind of a journey from paradise at 7000 feet back to the reality of Los Angeles.  Here are yellow flowers growing on the hills on the side of the road, as we started down from the top of the mountain, toward civilization.

There were so many different growing zones that were so obvious as we gradually descended back to sea level.  You could see the area where the timberline stopped and it was bare above the pine trees.  This is when we were back to about 2000 feet and you can see how different things grow at different elevations.  Also, clearly this area had suffered a burn because so many of the bushes were totally burned and were dead.

Only in Los Angeles would you see a collection of overlapping bridges at one of the intersection on Highway 10, commonly known as "The Ten" a really busy freeway that starts at the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica, California, and goes all the way to Jacksonville, Florida!

When we got back down to nearly sea level, we were on this road, and I was stunned to see high tension power going off into the distance.  I don't ever remember seeing anything like this before!

"The Ten." Eight lanes of traffic, four in each direction and packed with cars!  Fortunately there were only minor delays on our three hour trip home.

I like how you have shown a contradiction in the landscapes in your photos as you all travel back home. There is the beauty and then a calmness to the mountains and flowers photos. The city photos, however, portray an agitation and restlessness. I guess the image and how it is felt and described is all in the eye of the beholder. Trace

Trace's comments are spot on. My thoughts exactly. I prefer the calm of family relaxing by a beautiful lake.

I'm so glad I don't live in a big city with all that traffic and congestion. Kudos to those who are willing and able to do it. Great images documenting the differences.

What a drastic difference from your top photo showing greenery and yellow flowers to four lanes of blacktop and cement in the last photo. I’ll take greenery any day…Betsey
