New York to Los Angeles

This morning, early, we left for JFK and our flight to Los Angeles.  We are spending 10 days with Liz and Sarah and Amy and Gus and Miss Vivian.  This was a really unusual flight in terms of viewing the country from above.  Shortly after takeoff and climb out we entered the clouds and then quickly climbed above them. We cruised at 35,000 feet across the United States, and there were clouds underneath us for the entire flight!  I have never seen this before!  We had a brief view of the ground for a couple of short periods when we were over Arizona and Nevada.

This is Lake Mead and at the bottom center of the photograph where the road meets the blue waters of the Colorado River, you can see Hoover Dam!

As we approached Los Angeles we flew past the San Bernardino mountains, and it was amazing to see the low clouds completely filling the valley and running up against the mountains.

When we got to Amy & Gus' home were completely surprised when our long-time friends Ken and Ronnie Schwarz who now live in Charleston, SC walked in the front door!   They have been visiting their two daughters and their families for the last 10 days.  So they had plotted with Amy to surprise us on the day we arrived in Los Angeles. What an amazing surprise!  We were blown away, and so pleasantly surprised that they made the effort to surprise us!  This called, of course, for a giant photograph of parts of our two families!

Some of our very best times have been "spur of the moment" times! Ronni, Jennifer and I thoroughly enjoyed our hastily prepared surprise visit with the Spencer family. Lot's of laughs and love shared during our brief visit! And thank you for capturing the moment with our smiling faces!
